| |
The first Mass for the newly formed 300 person congregation of what was to become St. Stephen Protomartyr Parish was celebrated at St. Patrick's Academy on August 17, 1952 by Rev. Thomas J. Hanley, founding pastor. Work on the church and school was begun simultaneously with a ground breaking ceremony November 28,1952. Christmas...1953....took on a special meaning when the first Mass was celebrated in the unfinished church. On June 1, 1954 Samuel Cardinal Stritch blessed and dedicated the completed church and school.
